Commanding impressive views south, Avon View Cemetery contains many key graves of historical figures who were active in the local area.
Notably, William Butler is buried here, overlooking where Butlers Tar Works used be down by the River Avon. He was also head of the board of the Bristol’s tram company and for St George. All the trams in Bristol stopped for 3 minutes as a mark of respect on the day he was buried here.
Handel Cossham, a major player in the mining industry of the Bristol coal field and the first MP for the constituency of Bristol East, is also buried here. And, if you look carefully, you can find one of a mysterious druid figure sculpted into one of the many incredible gravestones.
